Advanced Study Setup Fields

Fields: Fields: Advanced  Set-up Page
Here is information about the fields (features) on the Advanced Set-up page.

Arm
This field is used to create a study arm. Multiple study arms should be used when study participants will not all have the same protocol, e.g. different instruments, different assessment schedule. Each row represents an instance of an assessment per arm.  Therefore, click the New Row button to add a row for each assessment in the first arm then repeat for each additional arm.

If participants self-register, Assessment Center will randomly assign them to study arms.  Participants will be evenly distributed among the study groups (i.e. arms) unless participants are registered by study staff on the Administration tab.

graphic Warning:
Any variation in the text entered into the Arm field will indicate a new study arm.  Therefore, it is important to ensure the names given a particular arm are entered exactly the same in each row. It is recommended you type in the initial Arm field, then use the cut/paste function to complete all subsequent Arm fields.

Assessment
This field is used to specify the assessment number of each arm entry. Studies may have an unlimited number of assessments. There will be an arm/assessment row for each instance of an assessment per study arm, e.g. a 2 arm study with 3 assessments per arm will have 6 rows on the Advanced Set-up page.

Each study arm must have a baseline assessment (Assessment=1).

Day Assessment Opens
This field designates when an assessment will be made available to study participants.  An assessment opens a specified number of days after the first assessment begins.  For example, if you would like the second assessment to being one week after the first assessment the number 7 would be entered into this field.  If you would like the third assessment to begin another 7 days after the second assessment the number 14 would be entered into this field.

This field is not applicable for the first assessment (Assessment=1). Therefore, a 0 will automatically be entered and the field cannot be edited.

Window
This field is used to establish how many days an assessment will remain open to study participants.  For example, if the value in the Window field equals 3 an assessment will be open and available for data collection for 3 calendar days.

For any assessment after the first assessment, a participant may complete the assessment starting from the Day Assessment Opens plus the value entered in the window field, e.g. assessment 2 opens 30 days after assessment 1 and the window is 4 days, therefore a participant may complete assessment 2 30-34 days after they started their first assessment.

During an assessment window, study participants may exit the assessment and come back later to complete it as long as they return within the window.

Description: TIP_Icon4

graphic Warning: Do not have overlapping assessments.  If you do, a person would be immediately transitioned to from one assessment to the subsequent assessment.
